NHIS Checkup

Health screenings provided by the National Health Insurance Service (NHIS) are conducted based on the National Health Insurance Act,
and you can receive your checkup at any designated medical institution of your choice, regardless of your location.

The screening is aimed at promoting the health of all NHIS members, including regional subscribers, employee subscribers, and dependents.

Eligible for Health Screening


Employee subscribers
Heads of household in the regional plan
Dependents and household members aged 20 and older
Medical aid recipients aged 19 to 64 (screening every 2 years)
Non-office workers: annual screening

Eligibility Criteria for Health Screening


Individuals born in even-numbered years are eligible in even-numbered years
Individuals born in odd-numbered years are eligible in odd-numbered years
Non-office worker employees are eligible for annual screenings

General Health Checkup Test Items


    Primary Screening Items    


· Questionnaire and physical examination

· Body measurements (height, weight, waist circumference, vision, hearing)

· Chest X-ray and urinalysis

· Blood tests (hemoglobin, fasting blood sugar, AST, γ-GTP, serum creatinine, e-GFR)

· Oral examination

· Cardiovascular and cerebrovascular disease risk assessment

    Secondary Screening Items    


Individuals suspected of having hypertension or diabetes based on the primary screening results

High-risk individuals for cognitive impairment among those aged 70 or 74 who received the primary screening


· Common: Physical exam and medical consultation

· Hypertension: Blood pressure measurement for those suspected of hypertension in the primary screening

· Diabetes: Fasting blood glucose test for those suspected of diabetes in the primary screening

· Cognitive impairment: KDSQ-C screening test and consultation for high-risk individuals from the primary screening
